Good News about public schools in Georgia

The proportion of Georgia public school 4th graders who scored at the highest two levels in math increased by 38% between 1996 and 2000, and the proportion of 8th graders who scored at the highest two levels in math increased by 46% between 1992 and 2000. RCM

More Georgia students are getting high scores on their SAT college entrance examinations. The proportion of graduating seniors getting high scores on the Verbal SAT has increased by 39% since 1994; the proportion of graduating seniors getting high scores on the Math SAT has increased by 15% since 1994. (A high score is defined as 600 or above.) SAT

 

Since 1994 Georgia's combined SAT scores have risen almost two times faster than the national average. CBS

 

Since 1994 Georgia's Verbal SAT scores have risen three times faster than the the national average. CBS

 

While 82% of Georgia's public high schools offer Advanced Placement (AP) courses through which high school students can earn college credit, just 41% of Georgia's private high schools offer these advanced courses. AP

 

Georgia leads the nation in the size and scope of its gifted and talented program. It is one of the top 6 states in the nation in the percentage of public secondary schools with a gifted and talented program. ESR

 

Georgia is one of the top 12 states in the proportion of public school teachers who have received certification from the prestigious National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. NBP and NEA

 

The number of Georgia teachers being honored with certification from the prestigious National Board of Professional Teaching Standards has increased more than 7-fold since 2000. NBP

 

The proportion of Georgia high school graduates going on to college has increased 7% since 1995. DEC and DED

 

Most of the public schools in Georgia (93%) have Internet access. MDR

 

There is one computer available for instruction for every 4.3 public school students in Georgia. MDR
